CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Charlotte police are getting ready in case of trouble as financial giant Bank of America holds its annual meeting of shareholders.
Officials declared ahead of Wednesday's meeting that it's an extraordinary civic event, triggering a city ordinance that makes it illegal to carry water bottles, hair spray, socks or magic markers near the site.
The rules that took effect ahead of last year's Democratic National Convention have been used for last year's Bank of America and Duke Energy shareholder meetings. The rules also apply for a three-day downtown street festival heading into the Memorial Day weekend and the NASCAR race in nearby Concord.
Shareholders assembling in Charlotte know the bank's stock is up sharply and executives are settling lawsuits stemming from its practices ahead of the Great Recession.
