Jackson Browne to Receive Les Paul Innovation Award

Legendary songwriter Jackson Browne has been announced as the next Les Paul Innovation Award-winner at the 33rd annual NAMM Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards on January 27.

"Jackson Browne's success as a singer, songwriter and guitarist has had a prolific impression on the music industry throughout his successful career," says Les Paul Foundation Executive Director Michael Braunstein.

The Les Paul Innovation Award is given on behalf of the Les Paul Foundation to honor excellence in recording technology, in the spirit of Les Paul.

"Like Les Paul, Jackson has never shied away from expressing his emotions or thoughts through his music," Braunstein added. "I have no doubt that Les would have liked to have shared a few jams with Jackson along the way."

In December, Brown released a single called "The Dreamers," inspired by the young people facing deportation under President Trump's immigration policies.

Browne recently launched a U.S. tour, which will keep him occupied through May.

The songwriter's January 23rd show in Orlando was the subject of an apparent terror threat, presumably due to the singer's liberal political stances.

The concerns came after the FBI was called to investigate banners inscribed with racial epithets found Sunday morning hanging outside a church Lafayette, Indiana. One of the banners specifically names Jackson Browne and seemed to indicate his Orlando concert.

The Journal & Courier reports that the banners appeared the morning after the church hosted an event called the Resistance Fair, which was an event tied to the inauguration of President Donald Trump.
