Jeffrey Epstein's Former Girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell Arrested By The FBI

Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, has been arrested by federal authorities in connection with the sex trafficking case against Epstein. She was charged by federal prosecutors in New York with enticement and conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, transportation and conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and two counts of perjury.

"In particular, from at least in or about 1994, up to an including at least in or about 1997, Maxwell assisted, facilitated, and contributed to Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of minor girls by, among other things, helping Epstein to recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse victims known to Maxwell and Epstein to be under the age of 18," the indictment says.

Maxwell has previously been accused of recruiting young women and arranging their visits to Epstein's home. The allegations were made by former staffers and associates of Epstein in depositions for a civil case, which were unsealed last summer.

Maxwell denied the allegations and, in a deposition of her own, called one of the accusers a "liar."

Epstein was arrested last year and charged with one count of sex trafficking conspiracy and one count of sex trafficking. Prosecutors accused him of luring girls, some as young as 14, to his mansion in New York City and his estate in Palm Beach, Florida, for sex. He pleaded not guilty but was denied bail and taken to a federal prison in New York City.

In August, Epstein committed suicide in his jail cell.
