Sweethearts have been a Valentine's Day staple for years. They are always a part of any school party and it was fun to read the messages on the candy. Never mind that they taste like chalk.
Well, prepare yourself. The conversation hearts will not be available this year! Necco, the original manufacturer, went out of business in July. The new owners, Spangler Candy Company, eventually acquired the Sweethearts but not in enough time to produce the candies for this year. Spangler said that the hearts should return to the shelves next year. May I suggest some Sweet Tart Hearts instead?
