RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ North Carolina Transportation Secretary Ton Tata says he is still committed to funding a railroad project in downtown Raleigh.
Tata's comments came just hours after his agency shifted $15 million away from a planned train hub in downtown Raleigh.
Transportation department officials had planned to use money they thought would be leftover from federal stimulus funding for a Raleigh-to-Charlotte railroad improvement project for the downtown hub.
But officials say the money will be used on the railroad project, leaving the Raleigh hub project without about one quarter of the $60 million needed.
Tata said Thursday his agency will seek other funding for the downtown train station, which had been scheduled for completion in 2017.
