It was 47 years ago today (Thursday), August 29th, 1966, that The Beatles did their final official concert in front of 25,000 people at San Francisco's Candlestick Park. (That was 15,000 shy of a sell-out.) They did 11 songs in 33 minutes, opening with "Rock and Roll Music" and closing with "Long Tall Sally."

There were many reasons why they stopped touring -- from not being able to hear themselves play, safety issues, being tired of it and just wanting to spend more time in the studio.

They did do one more show, an impromptu 42-minute performance on the roof of their Apple office in London on January 30th, 1969.

While Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr still tour, George Harrison only did two solo tours, while John Lennon never went on the road again.

The Beatles' final set list -- August 29th, 1966 -- San Francisco:

  • "Rock and Roll Music"
  • "She's a Woman"
  • "If I Needed Someone"
  • "Day Tripper"
  • "Baby's in Black"
  • "I Feel Fine"
  • "Yesterday"
  • "I Wanna Be Your Man"
  • "Nowhere Man"
  • "Paperback Writer"
  • "Long Tall Sally"
