Friday's Arctic cold front is going to bring several mornings of brutally cold winds across Central Texas! Wind Chills Sunday & Monday mornings will be near ZERO!! That means melting will be slow, and impacts could linger for several days after the storm ends. Cold like this can be hard on plumbing, so now is the time to prepare.
Steps to help prevent frozen pipes:
• Let faucets stream slowly (especially on exterior walls)
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Cover or insulate exposed pipes, outdoor spigots, and crawl spaces
• Keep your thermostat set to the same temperature day and night
• Seal drafts around doors, windows, and where pipes enter the house
• If leaving town, never turn the heat off, set it no lower than 55°
A little prep now can save you big headaches later. I’ve definitely been there before.
